Jan Tunley, LIBS Postgraduate Employability Officer, has been visiting Lincoln International Business School (LIBS) master’s students who have taken the opportunity to experience a one-year work placement as part of their two-year programme. Isaac is completing his placement in accounting and Finance with The Wyndham Hotel Group.

Isaac says he was very certain from the outset that he wanted to do a placement, he knew why he wanted to do it, what benefit it would be, and was entirely focused on securing a good placement. Isaac began looking and applying for placements right away in October.

Isaac wanted to be with an international company but based in UK, which is known for high standards in accountancy. Isaac knew that learning from a large firm would be invaluable because it would fit him for absolutely any employer he found after that. Isaac also knew that mastering the professional (Finance & Accounting) skills and the soft (People) skills were equally important to becoming a good manager.

Isaac said after applying for many roles and being rejected, he then booked himself an appointment with the Central Careers & Employability Team, after which three employers invited him to the final interview stage – and each offered him an internship! Isaac says it was the Careers’ Team’s advice that made all the difference, and he advises all new students to make full use of all the employability help that is on offer.

Isaac has made some good friends among the other interns, and his manager was full of praise for him. Isaac’s aim is to become a Head of Finance one day and, if his placement is anything to judge by, he is well on the way!
