As a Lincoln International Business School (LIBS) student, Geetesh has the opportunity to experience a one-year work placement as part of his two-year master’s programme. Jan Tunley, LIBS Postgraduate Employability Officer, visited Geetesh recently on location at The Taj Hotel St. James Court London London to ensure that he was enjoying the placement, being supported and mentored, and progressing his career.

Geetesh says he has completely settled into the hotel and his role. Geetesh talked about how, when he arrived, he felt as if he knew nothing about the business so asked questions all the time. He says he has learned by constantly interacting with everyone there, learning from them, and actively listening to everything going on around him. This focus has certainly paid off.

The chef who is Geetesh’s immediate supervisor said that Geetesh’s knowledge grew steadily, until they felt confident to put him in charge of Afternoon Teas (ie the desserts department). He now supervises that area, does all the planning, and keeps others informed so that everything works efficiently.

Geetesh has discovered he has a gift for desserts, as well as planning and coordination. He wants to rise up the ladder of seniority but retain this speciality. Two senior chefs who design special desserts are now mentoring Geetesh and involving him in the creative process, even consulting him for his opinions at the design stage.

Through hard work and focus, Geetesh has grown in skill and now aims to become a head chef and to specialise in desserts. Geetesh is well-respected by his colleagues and very dedicated to the career ahead.
