Lincoln International Business School (LIBS) master’s students have an opportunity to experience a one-year work placement as part of the two-year programme. Jan Tunley, LIBS Postgraduate Employability Officer visits many students on location to ensure that they are enjoying the placement, are fully supported and progressing well. Bhuwan, who is studying MSc International Hospitality Management with Professional Practice, is at Cafe Revival in Bristol.

Bhuwan has been learning all about the business and the UK customer base while working in Café Revival. It’s not a huge cafe, with just three staff on any shift, but working there has given Bhuwan a full and hands-on understanding of the business. The owner, Amit, plans to open another café very shortly and once Bhuwan was fully trained in how the business ran, he was set a very significant project indeed.

Bhuwan was given a completely free hand to research viability and decide on the new purchase. As part of that he reached out to speak with other businesses in the location being considered, and (amongst other things) confirmed that the footfall is huge in the area and that there is a clear market for their product. Bhuwan also negotiated with the seller on the premises being bought, making the final recommendation to Amit to buy.
Bhuwan looks forward to opening the new business, recruiting staff, and bringing his own ideas to the project. Amit said that hospitality could use many more people like Bhuwan because he is not afraid to raise issues. Bhuwan has previous hospitality experience, so has a good general understanding of the business and, where he sees an area for improvement, he raises it!

It is clear that Bhuwan has the trust and respect of his manager and has been given well-earned responsibility in return. A job well done!
