Mandeep is enjoying an internship as a Meetings and Events Planning Executive, as part of the Lincoln International Business School (LIBS) master’s level two-year programme, which includes this opportunity to experience a one-year work placement.
LIBS’ Postgraduate Employability Officer, Jan Tunley, visited Mandeep on location at the InterContinental Hotel London – The O2, to ensure that he was being fully supported, progressing well, and enjoying his role.
Mandeep took Jan on a tour of the hotel, and spoke about his role in the running of it. They saw the various function rooms (with the largest ballroom in Europe), conference rooms, bars, restaurants, and facilities. Mandeep is very proud to be working in this prestigious establishment and was in his element.
Mandeep has made a great group of friends among his colleagues. Mandeep talked about how his manager had been a superb mentor and that the whole of the staff environment is very supportive. Mandeep has worked his best and hardest at the role and says that when you have that attitude you receive the same in return from your employer and colleagues. Mandeep’s team helped him to grow into the role.
Mandeep has organised over 35 events so far, with some of them being for 2000+ attendees. His first large event was on 18th November. It was a C&D Red Carpet event and coincided with the date of his first in-house management training workshop that took place at Sofitel Hotel in Heathrow Terminal 5, so it was a huge challenge to organise the event and attend the workshop, but Mandeep did both. His next 2000+ event was in December for EMC.
Mandeep is one of the three staff selected for a six-month foundation management course, which began in November. The certificate at the end sets graduates up to apply for managerial roles (HR, Front Office, Commercial, Finance, Operations, etc.)
Mandeep has found the path to his future career and is delighted to have had such a wonderful opportunity.
