The Global Experiences Team look after the business school’s placement year opportunity, and we believe that every student should have access to opportunities and events that improve employability and professional skills.

We run a range of different activities for undergraduate students, including the Professional Practice Module, information workshops, employer lectures, business trips and more!

Professional Practice Module for Masters Students

The Professional Practice Master’s (also known as PPM, postgraduate placement year, internship, or management traineeship) is an excellent way for master’s students to gain postgraduate level experience in the workplace. The PPM enables students whose work experience was gained elsewhere to learn how to operate in another country and offers a chance to redirect their career if that’s their aim. For students without prior work experience the PPM is a perfect way to gain a foothold in the world of work and set students on the path to their career.

Students are supported to find their placement opportunity through information sessions and one-to-one guidance, as well as by the central Careers Team and through connecting with opportunities via the Global Experiences Team.

If you’re a postgraduate student with any questions about the road to finding your placement, get in touch with the team for help and advice!

University Business Challenge for Masters Students

Postgraduate Masters students from across the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities can apply for this year’s round of the Global Masters Business Challenge. Students can take part in a simulation-based business competition which has been running for the past 24 years at undergraduate level and for the past 3 years at postgraduate. By participating in the UBC Global Masters, students will improve their knowledge of the business world, develop their employability skills, meet potential employers and enhance their CV. Employability Trips

The LIBS Global Experiences Team, who look after undergraduate employability in the business school, have previously run funded field trips which have included an employability-focused visit to businesses and organisations. In the 2022-23 academic year our employability trips were to Killarney, Ireland and London. The Killarney trip featured excursions to local businesses and companies, national parks, and employability focused workshops, and enhanced the student understanding of how local tourism benefits economies, as well as the skills and experience employers look for within job roles and applications. The London trip also took students to the CPID Festival of Work to allow students to network with employers, as well as visits to the Taj Hotel in St James Court and the Bloomberg headquarters in the City, which expanded upon students’ understanding of Bloomberg through the university’s very own Bloomberg Suite.

Watch closely for news of the next employability trip!
